GW1 Draft Analysis

As a new season of the premier league begins, so does the inaugural Out of my League draft. Filled with 10 participants, each with their own unique team and tactics, this article will bring you the exciting story of how the draft league unfolds, as well as the excellent decisions or horrible mistakes made by the managers. Each gameweek, this column will be published a day after the final match so make sure to always check in.

As seen above, the league has gotten off to a fast start, with nobody maintaining a clear advantage, with only 27 points separating the top from the bottom. Interestingly, the top spot is currently held by Mbulelo, who had the first pick in the draft, while in last place is Keyshaun, who had the second pick. For this week, we’ll take a look at the team in first place, Aubamaself (which wins the award for best team name).

As seen above, using his first pick wisely, getting his hands on Sterling was an excellent move as it not only gave him the highest scoring player of the week, it also kept Sterling out of everyone’s way, leading to a scramble for the remaining top tier midfield talent. In other parts of the pitch, a strong defense, including a wise investment in a strong keeper, allowed him to rack up the points. A lucky break also helped, with third sub Tarkowski coming on and lending 6 points, but such luck is what makes or breaks teams. With a strong start, and a strong defense, Mbulelo should be set to defend his lead, though there are 4 players within 10 points of him, so he must remain wary, and make smart changes, including getting rid of Davies, who will see limited game time.
